ALENTEJO

I had no time to write the last 2 days.
On Tuesday it was my husband's birthday and, as usual, we took the day to travel our country with the children and learn and teach them about our history, landscape, food, architecture, etc

We went south, to Alentejo. My favourite place in Portugal and many foreigners' favourite too. Germans love Alentejo so much that they come to visit and end up moving and living there. The German comunnity is, therefore quite big there.

Here you have a picture of a Stonehenge twin! It's called "Cromeleque dos Almendres" and it was discovered on private property - now made public and of national interest - a few years ago (1964).

It is belived to be from 6 to 3 century b.c., it has circa 95 stones and some of them have 2,5m heigh. It is nowadays considered one of the most important megalitic monument in Europe.

This is a small village on the way to the monument. As you can see everything is mainly white because of the heat - it makes houses fresher in the Summer.

Hope you liked the journey!
To be continued...

a day at the beach

Here it is! This is a beach on the southbank of Lisbon called Costa da Caparica. It has several kms and is one of the most popular because it's close to the capital.
Today we spent the morning at the beach just letting kids enjoying themselves.

It only has sand and sea! No rocks! It is great for children and to surf, but I particularly prefer rocky beaches: they are much richer concerning sea life, and therefore much more interesting.

Here are some of the shells you can find around here.

My son having a great time:
If you're really lucky you might find some amazing things in the woods (that were sea million of years ago) surrounding the beaches.

My favourite magazine

This is my favourite magazine. It is a french magazine that I came to know in 1994, while I was in the hospital recovering from an illness. Since then I never stopped buying it. I just fell in love with it.

Here it is why:

Apart from marvelous photos and ideas it also contains beauty , travel, cooking, parties, babies ideas and much more. Mostly important it always has a complete "how to" section with detailed instructions so you can do it yourself.

It also has an on-line shop where you can buy all sorts of things and books. Check it out at:

There you can also make the "abonnement".
Hope you like it as much as I do!

Remove the gelly from the pudding pan and serve it with the strawberries coulis.
